Vehicle history reports

What's in a VinAccuracy report?

Vehicle specifications, title brands such as salvage, flood and rebuilt, total-loss and junk/salvage yard records, reported odometer readings with a rollback check, sale and listing history, market value, safety recalls, owner complaints and crash test ratings. See the sample report.

Where does the data come from?

Title, brand, odometer and total-loss records come from the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS) through an approved data provider. Specs, recalls, complaints and crash ratings come from federal NHTSA databases, and listing and market data from dealer and private-party listings nationwide. Read more in Data Practices.

Does a clean report guarantee the car has no problems?

No. A report can only show events that were reported to the sources it searches. Some accidents and repairs are never reported. Always have a used car inspected by an independent mechanic before you buy.

Which vehicles can I check?

Cars, trucks, SUVs, vans and motorcycles with a standard 17-character VIN, which covers vehicles built since 1981. Older vehicles with shorter VINs can't be decoded.

Can I check a car for free?

Yes. Our free VIN decoder shows factory specs and our recall lookup shows safety recalls. The full history report, with title, odometer, salvage and listing records, is part of a membership.

Membership & billing

How much does it cost?

$1.00 for 1 vehicle report and 3 days of access on the Starter plan. Unless you cancel before then, it renews at $30.00 per month for up to 5 reports a month. Other plans are on the pricing page.

How do I cancel?

Sign in and click Cancel on your account page. It's one click, no phone call needed, and you keep access until the end of the period you've paid for.

Can I get a refund?

If a report can't be generated for your VIN, or you're unhappy with your first report, contact us within 7 days of the charge for a full refund. Monthly renewals are billed in advance and aren't refundable, so cancel before your renewal date if you no longer need the service.

What will the charge look like on my statement?

Charges appear on your card statement as VINACCURACY.
